The Siege at the Villa Lipp, Ambler, Eric
1 Ambler, Eric The Siege at the Villa Lipp
Random House 1977 First Edition Hardcover Excellent Excellent 22cm
275 crisp pp & a whisker under 500g to post. The Siege of the Villa Lipp is a classic Eric Ambler tale of suspense in which a man thrust into a high-stakes situation, far outside of his usual expertise, finds himself at the mercy of forces beyond his control. The plot > The “Able Criminal”, as defined by noted criminologist Frits Krom, strikes with no discernible pattern or method, and flies below the radar of crime syndicates and law enforcement agencies alike. He is virtually uncatchable—but Krom is willing to try. He knows that Paul Firman, the director of an ostensibly legitimate international investment firm, is in fact an expert in tax avoidance and a textbook Able Criminal. Surprisingly, Firman agrees to submit to an interview with Krom and his two colleagues at his secluded villa on the French Riviera. He’s more than a little curious about what they really want from him and confident he can avoid implicating himself. But it soon becomes evident that the host and his guests are under siege by a third party, one whose motives and violent intentions are unclear. If they are to survive, the criminal and the criminologists will have to band together.

3 Cameron, Lindy (ed) Meaner Than Fiction
Australia Five Mile Press 2008 Papeback As New None issued 23cm
218pp in as new order throughout - review/content > MEANER THAN FICTION is a series of pieces written by crime writers, lawyers, academics and those involved in the legal/justice system that demonstrates that the legal system doesn't always dispense justice. The title of the book, MEANER THAN FICTION is an apt one. If these stories had been crime fiction, readers would have been up in arms about unresolved plots and untidy endings. For many of the people in the book there is no happy ending, because this is life and it is MEANER THAN FICTION.

A Murder is Announced, Christie, Agatha
6 Christie, Agatha A Murder is Announced
UK Collins 1985 Hardcover Very Good/Good Good 21.5cm
288pp & under 500g to post. Faults? bumped/worn corners - Villagers expect a fun game after a Gazette announcement of murder, but when lights flash off, shots ring out, and a masked burglar falls dead, the Inspector and vicar's wife Bunch call in expert Miss Jane Marple. Was Swiss hotel clerk Rudi framed? Miss Letitia Blackstone houses scatty Dora, cousins Julia and Patrick, gardener widow Phillipa, and paranoid cook Mitzi. reviewer says >> This is one of the good ones. My favorite Christie stories are the ones where multiple people get murdered. A murder occurs, people start looking for the killer, and then BAM somebody else is found dead and you realize that whoever the killer is he/she is ***ing nuts and you don't know who's going to die next. It adds a great deal of tension and urgency to the story, and I love it.

Pirates, Kemp, Ross
16 Kemp, Ross Pirates
Michael Joseph 2009 Hardcover Excellent Excellent 24 Cm
237pp with two photo sections, over 500g for posting. Pirates have been around as long as people have used the oceans as trade routes, and their reign on the world's high seas has inspired many a novelist. But the type of pirate Ross Kemp is investigating now is a world away from the cutlass-and-peg-leg stereotype of Treasure Island and Pirates of the Caribbean. The corsairs he meets in Somalia, Indonesia and Nigeria are armed with AK47 assault rifles, RPG-7 rocket launchers and semi-automatic pistols. They race towards their targets in speed-boats and board and capture vessels in a flash. They are violent, dangerous and ruthless - they will stop at nothing to get the ransoms they have demanded. Piracy is becoming an increasingly serious problem that is not going away. As the pirates he meets stretch their operations ever further to new hunting grounds, Kemp finds out, often to his cost, how much of a force to be reckoned with they are.
