1 Roberts, Andrew Hitler & Churchill Secrets of Leadership
UK Weidenfeld & Nicolson 2003 Hardcover Excellent Excellent
202 crisp pp, 700g packed for post, several photo sections. Adolf Hitler and Winston Churchill were two totally opposite leaders - both in what they stood for and in the way in which they seemed to lead. Award-winning historian Andrew Roberts examines their different styles of leadership and draws parallels with rulers from other eras. He also looks at the way Hitler and Churchill estimated each other as leaders, and how it affected the outcome of the war. In a world that is as dependent on leadership as any earlier age, HITLER AND CHURCHILL asks searching questions about our need to be led. In doing so, Andrew Roberts forces us to re-examine the way that we look at those who take decisions for us. review >>> An intruguing review of two of the world's most fascinating war leaders. Roberts makes valid points about the leaders and comes to a profound conclusion. The book is littered with evidence that's used to back up his argument, which he successfully puts forward, implying thorough research has gone into the book.

2 Roberts, Andrew Masters and Commanders, How Roosevelt, Churchill, Marshall and Alanbrooke Won the War in the West
UK Allen Lane 2008 Hardcover Excellent Very Good
At first glance, it seems remarkable, reading this behind-the-scenes tour of high-level policymaking in the second world war, that the allies managed to defeat the Germans at all. "Masters and Commanders" by Roberts reflects his skilled research in mining previously unavailable diaries and oral histories - a surprising number of senior policymakers were ignoring the rules and jotting things down at night - this book brings vividly to life the personal interactions and impressions of those involved. Roberts has a keen eye for the telling anecdote, and he gives a vivid sense of the extreme strains generated by a struggle fought not in the field but in committee rooms and offices. This research reflected in 674 pp & 1.3 kgs of text. Faults? Personally I wouldn't say it's a fault, but if you wanted a pistine book the first page has a touching personal note of thanks. The older I get the more I like these touches in pre-owned books.

3 Roberts Andrew NAPOLEON AND WELLINGTON
Weidenfeld & Nicolson Uk 2001 0297646079 / 9780297646075 1st Edition Hard Cover Excellent Excellent Book Weighs Over 500gms
At breakfast on the morning of the battle of Waterloo, the Emperor Napoleon declared that the Duke of Wellington was a bad general, the British were bad soldiers and that France could not fail to win an easy victory. Forever afterwards, historians have accused him of gross overconfidence and massively understimating the calibre of the British commander opposed to him. Now the award winning historian Andrew Roberts presents an original, highly revisionist view of the relationship between the two greatest captains of their age.
