A Murder is Announced, Christie, Agatha
1 Christie, Agatha A Murder is Announced
UK Collins 1985 Hardcover Very Good/Good Good 21.5cm
288pp & under 500g to post. Faults? bumped/worn corners - Villagers expect a fun game after a Gazette announcement of murder, but when lights flash off, shots ring out, and a masked burglar falls dead, the Inspector and vicar's wife Bunch call in expert Miss Jane Marple. Was Swiss hotel clerk Rudi framed? Miss Letitia Blackstone houses scatty Dora, cousins Julia and Patrick, gardener widow Phillipa, and paranoid cook Mitzi. reviewer says >> This is one of the good ones. My favorite Christie stories are the ones where multiple people get murdered. A murder occurs, people start looking for the killer, and then BAM somebody else is found dead and you realize that whoever the killer is he/she is ***ing nuts and you don't know who's going to die next. It adds a great deal of tension and urgency to the story, and I love it.

5 Neff, James The Wrong Man
Random House 2001 Hardcover Excellent Excellent 24cm
Drawing on a decade of research and access to crime-scene evidence, including DNA analyses and interviews, an award-winning investigative journalist offers a definitive account of the controversial murder case....review > The Wrong Man is a gripping and provocative look at the sensational murder trial(s)of Sam Sheppard. While in high school in the 70's, I remember first reading about the case in F. Lee Bailey's book "The Defense Never Rests". Neff's book takes you behind the headlines of this infamous case and moves forward from the day of the crime and through the various incarnations of the case in the state and federal courts. I could not put the book down once I started reading it. 414 pp in great order, close to 1 kg packed wt.

The Complaints, Rankin, Ian
6 Rankin, Ian The Complaints
Orion Books Ltd. 2010 Paperback Very Good None issued 20cm
452pp + reading group notes, less than 500g to post. Fox, the main character, is part of the unpopular Complaints & Conduct department of the police force (better known as ‘The Complaints’) -- and the reason for that unpopularity is clear to see: this is the department designed to root out corruption in the force and investigate suspect officers. The current target for Fox is policeman Glenn Heaton of the CID, who has often sailed close to the edge; now there appears to be material for a case against him. But at the same time, another cop, Jamie Breck, is suspected of being part of a ring indulging in child abuse. Fox is in for some jawdropping surprises regarding his colleague, and the shifting relationship between the two men is at the core of this finely honed narrative (along with Fox's treatment of his ailing father -- something else which differentiates this book from its predecessors).
